How To Remove 2nd & 3rd Row Seats From a Lexus GX460
If you’re trying to figure out how to remove the 2nd and/or 3rd row seats from your GX460 then you’ve come to the right spot.
It’s not a difficult task, but like many things it can be helpful to see an example of getting it done before you dive in.
In the video below, we walk through the steps to remove both 3rd row seats in addition to the 2nd row 2/3 seat behind the driver.
For us, the goal with doing this was to open up space for our custom overland kitchen and storage drawer system. Stay tuned for more details on that!
Very key point: once you take out either of the 2nd row seats, your dash will light up with the airbag warning light due to the seat being disconnected. You’ll need to decide if you can live with that light remaining on or doing another mod to “trick” the system into thinking the sensor is still connected. We’ll be doing this mod soon but for now have been rolling with the airbag light on.

Quick question on the second row seat removal for the GX460. If you disconnect the battery, would it prevent the airbag warning light from coming on in the first place?

I think if I disconnect the battery before disconnecting the airbag and then give it at least 90 seconds, the reserve power in the airbag system will dissipate. So no light will come on when I reconnect the battery after reconnecting the airbag system. Must be a small capacitor in there somewhere.
Reading IH8MUD, I think the resistor fix may not work on my year (2014).
This is part of my chewing on the fuel pump recall, especially in light of remote travel. I might keep a backup fuel pump assembly in the vehicle, but I want to know I can change it out anywhere…..
